When I first saw wooden bikes for kids, I was a bit perplexed. They’re gorgeous, yes, and fit well with any modern parents’ highly developed design aesthetic! But, I wondered if they had a rather limited function in the lifecycle of a child. I just saw an editorial featuring Likeabike (shown above is the Mountain model) and it looks like the best part about it (other than being loads of fun) is that it gives a child lots of mobility without training wheels. They’re legs are both propellers and stability. So by the time they graduate to a true pedal bike, they’ve got the concept of balance all figured out. Nifty eh?
For a less expensive version, here’s the Skuut Balance bike – the name says it all!
wood + bike = easy rider

mari—it really works. F had a goodwill version (small bike with pedals taken off).
he went directly from that to a bike. the skuut or likeabike is definitely better because they are lighter but either is better than training wheels!
I love knowing that the concept works – it makes so much sense when you think about it. And, it gives us an excuse to shop for a cool bike like this, vs. ugly training wheels ;)
