Keeping kiddos occupied

Whenever I use the word “inspiration” it sounds so high falluitn’, and maybe a little pompous.  I can’t help it, it must be my modest streak. Still, finding the Think-ets has put me on a hunt. It was subconscious at first. But when I was shopping with a friend who mentioned that Think-ets had done the same thing to her, I realized what I’d been doing. There’s even a cafe in South Minneapolis that apparently provides boxes of goodies, like Think-ets,  to entertain their smaller patrons. What am I talking about? Stuffing a container (preferably something funky that is also easy to open, close, and carry) with fascinating things to occupy our children. Right now, Birdie loves to play with a clear zippered pouch that holds her butt paste, among other “goodies”. Not always the best restaurant table accoutrements. But what about a fun metal lunchbox full of scintillating tchotskes? That would be much more appropriate. I’ve started collecting all kinds of goodies! Next up, I’m thinking a couple of these beautiful tiny spinning tops made from old skateboard decks.

What about you guys, what keeps your kids occupied at restaurants and in the car? Share it in the comments below!

In the car usually books and toy cars are all we need. For restaurants, if the food and conversation aren’t enough, I probably don’t want to go. I hate picking up toys and crayons from under the table. :-/

The crayons under the table phenomenon is a category unto itself. Especially with a toddler!

I actually really want one of his stools. And the chairs are great too – I should have mentioned that above! Thanks for reminding me!
