Imaginative Play Creative DIY Craft Construction Kits from Makedo

Can you smell it? Take a big whiff of your email, or maybe a recent magazine. Mmm, it’s the smell of holiday shopping. I have decided it’s ok to embrace the holiday season on November 1st. If you wait until Thanksgiving there’s simply NOT enough time to love it all. But seeing media everywhere promoting it wholeheartedly is, honestly, making me feel behind already!

These crafty construction kits by Makedo just arrived in my email today, thanks to Gift Hero’s own holiday nudge. The concept is brilliant. Each modern toy kit gives your kids some basic – but innovative – connectors, tools, and ideas. Yet they help kids use their own found materials from around the house – cardboard, plastic bottle caps, etc. It’s like each kit is a creativity kick-starter, design manifesto, and recycling primer cobbled together in a neat little package. For $20 you get a kit that is much more open-ended than your standard kids creativity package. Choose your kit from freeplay, dollhouse, car, or flowers. But the resulting toy will always be unique to your child’s experience. So. Cool.

Love these! I put them on our wish list a while ago. I love making stuff out of cardboard boxes and this just makes it way cooler and easier!

Exactly! It takes cardboard playtime to a whole new level, and what kid wouldn’t love the added fun of the tools and connectors?
When you get some, you’ll have to let me know what you think!

I found tips on the web and built a very nice doll house similar to yours using foam board and packing tape. You can also use the three panel science project foam board. Took me about 20 minutes, and we decorate it with markers and patterned construction paper. Cost, about $5.

Dave, of course we can make a dollhouse without the help of Makedo – I’d love that project too! But I think for some kids this option gives them the added boost to get going. Especially those who love construction toys already!
