Chronicle Books Alphabeasties Modern Colorful Designer Typographic Flashcards by Werner Design Werks

Birdie’s lovely friends and family gave her some amazing gifts last weekend for her birthday. I have many many favorites! The Alphabeasties: Flash Cards ($15) are one of them. Each animal is smartly created out of it’s letter (M for Monkey, G for Giraffe, etc.) and features a dizzying array of good fonts and lovely design choices. Simple and effective. The cards are extra thick and should last longer than most. Plus the backs combine to form two large floor puzzles (I love an innovative bonus feature). And the carrying box is a weighty, library-quality, fabric-bound gem. Aaah, good design makes me smile.

Lo and behold – it came from  Minneapolis! It was designed by  Sharon Werner of Werner Design Werks. Sharon, you won’t remember me, but I remember meeting you twelve years ago when I was a shiny new newbie at Manhattan Toy and you redesigned the packaging for the Skwish. Brilliantly I might add. You’ve been inspiring me ever since – merci.

This would look great as wall art in a kid space.
