Let me first apologize, I meant to do a test drive of this app with Birdie last night but our Father’s Day got a little craaazy! We were outside partying hard core. Laying pavers, planting plants, digging in the dirt, and running through the sprinkler. Simultaneously of course! Didn’t seem like my idea of a Special Day, but hey, if that’s what Daddy wants, that’s what Daddy gets. (and I, in turn, will finally get that gorgeous patio we’ve been discussing for years now.)
I am positive this Interactive Bedtime app, Nighty Night! by Shape Minds and Moving Images, will be a big hit. It’s a simple idea, executed beautifully. Watch each animal in the scene get ready for bed – but not until you find the light switch and turn the lights out for each friend. At the end, the app makes sure you turn your own lights out too. Very cute. You’ve got options for automatic narration, or take it at your leisure.
I’m thinking I might try it out at nap time instead of bed time – because I’m loathe to get rid of real books in our nighttime routine. I’m fairly certain if we introduce the iPad at bedtime to our 2 1/2 year old, she’ll want it there every night. I’m so not ready for that battle. Which begs the bigger question: How do you guys integrate tech into your young kids’ lives, without going overboard? All I can say is we’re working hard at moderation in our house – with the same kind of daily limits as TV watching. What works for you guys? Share in the comments!
