Best Cool Modern Backpacks for Kids Back to School

My little precious Birdie is starting preschool this fall. Sigh. Big long drawn-out bittersweet proud momma sigh. We’re madly prepping over here with labels, extra potty training underwear (oh boy.), “indoor shoes”, and fall fashions that can withstand hours of playtime. But unlike labels and underwear, I can actually get excited about some of it – like backpacks. So, of course I’ve been madly gathering up gazillions of options in tons of sizes and styles. My absolute favorites are actually made right here in my home state (see the Duluth Packs at the end of the post!). Plus, all except two of these beauties are under 50 smackers. Extra nice.

Sugar Booger Play Packs, $20 (image way above) – These guys are small for littler kids, but come in bright solids and lots of sweet prints (matroyska dolls or robots or fairies? oh my!)

Bakker Book Bag, via Nonchalant Mom, $58 – These classic book bags from France are gorgeous – sling that shoulder strap over your kiddo’s shoulder and they are instantly the height of fashion. Tres cool.

Skip Hop’s Owl and Fox (and many others) Backpacks, $20 – available in lots of sweet styles, I’m particularly smitten with their newest friends, sweet retro forest pals.

Little Life Dinosaur and Ladybug Daysacks, $30 – I love the innovation in these two backpacks. Both come with removable hoods that extend the imaginative play, letting kids pretend they actually are the animals on their backs.

Manhattan Portage Kids Backpack, $39 (above left) – This is for the simple minimalists in your life. Love the uber-clean lines and Manhattan Skyline Logo. Available in navy or brown cordura nylon.
Sparkle Junior Backpack, $22 – $29 (above right) – This blinding backpack from the Gap (you won’t lose your kid at the bus stop now, will you?) is sure to get them noticed. I like me a little tasteful glitz, here and there.

Spiketus backpacks, $15-$45 – Spiketus Bags are showing up everywhere this year, whether you start with the smaller lunch totes or aim high with the biggest backpack, they’ll give your kiddos a sharp edge. (ha, get it? I die.)

Duluth Pack Child’s Pack, $70 – I love that the coolest option is actually made right here in Minnesota. These classic Duluth Packs come in many many colors (I think I’m counting 12) and will last for decades. It’s style so classic that it’s retro cool.

Skip Hop bags are very cute, my five year old loves them, and they can compete based on price- a very nice value.

They’re the best of both worlds aren’t they? Cool to look at, and affordable. Happy to hear they’re kid-approved too!
