I think I say this too often, but it feels like it’s been a doozy of a week around here! How about you? Our highlight was small but definitely a milestone: yesterday was my wee little girl’s first school picture day! Complete with the painterly background, the packaged photo options, the group shot of her classmates … unbelievable. Makes me feel like a parent with a capital P. She even managed to keep the same dress on that I put her in when she left the house. So as long as she smiled, we’ve got a sweet & happy color-coordinated photo! (Come on, from me? Would you expect anything less?) But now I’m sure the waiting will be torturous … I wonder how long school photos take to return in our digital age? Let’s hope for super speedy!
This weeks’ links to keep you busy around the web:
- (image above) I just found a beautiful new collection of art prints for kids, The Littlest Mammoth– along with their sister site of prints for all over the place, Mammoth & Co. Thanks Buy Modern Baby for the inspiration!
- I’ve been stuck with various forms of illness the last couple of weeks, and now that I’m coming up for air, reading Modish Blog’s post was just the kick in the arse that I needed: How to Get Out of Your Head.
- Such a fun idea for stickers – these large designs turn your random recyclables into imaginative play items – record players, trumpets, cameras, etc. Check out Box Play for Kids, found via Daily Candy.
- I’ve got to find the time to dive into this list of the New York Times 2011 Best Illustrated Books Children’s Books. (I should probably just buy them all regardless, how could one go wrong?!). Found via Babble.com’s Strollerderby blog.
- While browsing around Design Mom, I’ve run into two outstanding projects for do-it-yourself Christmas gifts your kids can make (or you can make yourself, sans kids!). Check out the DIY:Custom Leather Patches and Potato Print Clothing posts. Let the season begin!
- It’s time to up the ante around here when it comes to present wrapping. I’ve got style and flair, but it’s time to incorporate some upcycling, and innovation. Like this cute pipe cleaner trick from Oh Happy Day (I have a suspicion the kids would really enjoy this one!)
- And for a really stupendous list of green gift wrapping solutions (I’m determined to try the Japanese scarf techniques!), find the list at Wrap it Green, from Green Gifts Guide.

Glad to know it was a big / busy week for someone else! Good luck on how the picture turns out :) I bet it will be great, but even if not, looking back on those photos always makes for fun memories.
And thanks so much for sharing our site on green gift giving. I just learned how to do the wrapping scarf technique… and aside from my dad having to show me 3 times how to tie a square knot, my gifts are looking really good!
Have a great weekend!
Amity – you’re right, even if the photos are “bad” they’ll be funny and memorable!
Hope you have a great weekend too – and congrats on learning how to tie that square knot!

Thanks Sam. Knock on wood, I think I’m on the mend!
