come fly with me: rainbows & clouds for birdie’s birthday

by mari

3 year old rainbow and clouds birthday party theme with creative balloons

Wow what a wonderful day we had yesterday! Birdie’s birthday spanned 2 weekends this year. I wanted to push her party out past her birthday to gain us a little extra time after Christmas. Between schedules and the influx of gifts, it seemed like a good idea at the time. It had some pros (more time for us to get ready!) and some cons (Birdie wanted to see her friends on her birthday, not wait a whole week!). But I can say this, we got to have two crazy fun-filled birthday weekends. And lots and lots of cleaning, organizing, and decorating.

The results? A “Come Fly with Me!” clouds and rainbows party for a girl nicknamed Birdie. A girl who loves balloons so much, that I was determined to find a creative way to use them. There were several revisions to my plans. It turns out balloons and popcorn ceilings (I hate them!) are not a good match – POP! Instead we found a way to include a huge crepe paper rainbow and lots of floating balloon clouds. My favorite bit? Several white  bath mats cut in the shape of clouds to cover the floor. They were so easy, relatively cheap, and a great take-home for her friends. We also added some way-over-the-top (slight cringe on my part?!) hot air balloons with a couple of small party favors for each guest. We rounded it off with make-your-own tacos (her favorite food) and a very specifically and repeatedly requested Pink. Strawberry. Cake. Her daddy-o even splurged on a little fluffy cotton candy machine. Sorry dear party friends, I know you missed the cotton candy, there was just too much to do during the party. But we had some afterwards, and will share with you all soon!

In the end, it was a beautiful, sunny, laughter and screamed filled afternoon. Thanks to all of our friends for joining us on Birdie’s special day – she was so excited to have you here!
