girl pirates should take over the world

Wry Baby Stuf Pirate Sue

It could happen. And now that Birdie has to wear an eye patch for a couple hours every day – to strengthen her weaker eye – I am a firm believer in pirates, particularly the girl variety. In fact, she was my inspiration for my most recent guest post over at Houzz.com. (her eye patch certainly wasn’t inspirational. Man, someone needs to design some cooler eye gear for kids!)

While gathering up some lovely Retro Ahoy! examples for Houzz, I was reminded how much I love Wry Baby’s line of Stuf characters. All of them are good, but of course, the pirates are particularly well-suited! Here I’ve featured Pirate Sue. Stop by Wry Baby for all of their Stuf characters, and stop by Houzz for my favorite Retro Ahoy! finds – all 20 of them. Shiver me timbers!

I am all for girl pirates. My 3 y.o. stands ready to dig for buried treasure any day of the week. Yaaarh!

Wry Baby’s pirate plush doll reminds me more of a carnival prize or something that one would knock over with a ball to win a prize at an amusement park.

By the way, have you met Monster Factory’s Rosco?

Arrrrr!
I think the simple shapes of the Stuf line could reference a vintage carnival plush, but if you see them in person the fabric and print is very high-end.

And I love Monster Factory!

Oh Birdie you are the best girl pirate I’ve ever seen! You wear it well with an effortless style. Go Birdie Go!

Shiver me timbers – your little girl makes a very cute little pirate :) I have a 5 year old pirate girl of my own and I agree that someone really needs to make something fun in the patch department. We use the stick on patches but they a) get expensive after a year (and counting) of wearing a new one every day and b) leave red, itchy marks on delicate skin :( Did you make Birdie’s patch? It looks much more comfy than the ones we use. Oh, and her glasses are just gorgeous!

Oh, and here’s a little rewards chart my pirate girl and I made up to encourage her to wear her patch :)

Great chart Sally!
Birdie, amazingly, seems to be ok with the patch so far. The first 2 days were rough, but now I just quietly go “wash” her glasses, add the eyepatch over the top of them, and then quietly put them back on. She didn’t even notice yesterday. We bought the patch from our eye doctors office, and it’s a little big, but does the trick. I hope it helps her eyes too. (because frankly, I think drops would be much trickier)

Thanks so much for the post, Mari! Glad Pirate Sue tickled yer fancy. :-)

We’re excited to add Circus Stuf and Robot Stuf to our line-up this Summer. You can get a sneak peek at one of the robots over at http://www.seestuf.com/robot-stuf-is-coming-soon/363/
