Summertime always brings a niggling frustration: I’ve never been good with shorts. They always cling in the wrong spot, bind in funny places, and highlight all those nasty dimply bits that I’d much rather be hiding. I just don’t find them comfortable!
As a mom who likes to be involved with my kiddo, I’ve been fighting tooth and nail for cool summer clothes that are still kid-friendly. You know, it needs to be something I can sit on the floor in (longer, fuller skirts), roll around in the grass with if necessary (no precious fabrics!) , swing on swings (can I tuck it around my legs?), etc. Plus, It’s got to cover the mom-tum (without spanx, thanx) and be stylish. No pressure.
I’ve done some browsing for you, and pulled together some super simple options. They’re easy to wear yet stylin’, and still appropriate for daily preschool pick-ups and grocery trips on Tuesdays. Which dress would you wear?
- Betsey Johnson Pink Label Midi Dress, $88 – Extra on-trend with it’s high/low hemline, but comfy and figure-flattering too.
- American Apparel A-line Maxi Dress, $60 – I own this dress (thanks AA!), and the thick cotton fabric is so comfortable. It really looks great with or without a belt too.
- ASOS Swing Hem Summer Dress, $44 – The higher waist highlights the skinniest part of our bodies, and the fuller skirt covers any lumps and bumps!
- ASOS Midi Summer Dress, $32 – That lower hem in the back adds a mod twist to a simple silhouette. Plus, I think it keeps it more relaxed.
- Les Prairies De Paris Lady Six Dress, $143 – I just love the shirt dress slouchy vibe of this dress, though the skirt might be a little less forgiving on an active day.
- Wood Wood Nelin Midi Dress, $145 – Perfect touches – the bows on the straps, the gathering of the fabric, and the color of the stripes. I love this spendy number.

Mari, You hit the nail on the head with this one. I have two summer dresses that I love for the exact reasons you mentioned. (Though my true test is can I garden in it.) It’s been really hard to find replacements for them, thanks for the research and the hope.

LOL, gardening is another great reason!
It’s a hard bill to fill, I’ll admit. But I do love a shopping challenge ;)
Yes! Another momma style post! great finds, as usual. ;)
You bet – I’ve been obsessed with dresses lately!!!
Glad you like them, I can see you rocking the B&W stripes!
It’s good to see pretty comfortable summer dresses for females that are not sexualized
agreed!
