I walk away from Christmas every year amazed and heartened by the thoughtful gifts and time well-spent with our nearest and dearest. And of course, I’m still reeling from the “krazy” amount of loot we’ve accumulated this Christmas. But the most unusual gift Birdie received this year was actually from us – and completely accidental.
Birdie was begging for a monstrosity of a pink plastic kid-sized car she’d found (also accidentally) in a Sunday newspaper ad. We’d finally convinced her that Santa might be able to bring her one of the more beautiful all-metal pedal cars. But I wasn’t convinced. It’s winter in Minnesota. When and where exactly will she be using this new vehicle? Then, by chance, we were wandering through our favorite old-school haunt: Fleet Farm’s Toyland. What did we spy? A Krazy Kar.
Apparently Krazy Kars were big in the 70’s, did you have one? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before! But wow what fun is this. I’m also amazed at how quickly Birdie, at a not-so-coordinated almost 4 years old, managed to figure out how maneuver her new ride. We still have to deal with winter in Minnesota, but she can use it a bit indoors too. When she declared she wanted a Krazy Kar more than a big pink car, I considered it a success – especially when a Krazy Kar is significantly cheaper than the cars my husband was eyeballing! Fleet Farm was selling these beautes for a measly $35, unfortunately it looks like that deal isn’t available online. But I would still pay Amazon’s $69 for one of these cars, for the hand-eye coordination experience alone! I’ll admit, it’s not as pretty as the pedal cars, but without the stickers (or even with them!) it’s got some retro charm that I’m loving. What was your most surprising Christmas gift for the kids?
