yes please, open this little book

Children's book Open this little Book from Chronicle Books by Jesse Klausmeier

Children’s books are best when they encourage imagination, free thinking, and a healthy dose of surprise. That’s why I cannot wait to get a copy of Open This Little Book because it’s so unique. Leave it to Chronicle Books to find such a gem (because frankly, I bet the printing/binding discussions to get this thing published were interesting, to say the least). Getting this book is like getting seven books in one. Each page shrinks in size, to create the illusion of a separate book nestled inside the one before it. It’s like a rainbow library all bound in one.

The story appears to unite the characters from each book together to become friends, which has me even more curious. Linking separate books and stories reminds me a little bit of Charlie Cook’s Favorite Book, another one of our favorite books at home. I really want to see Birdie’s face the first time we read Open This Little Book, I think the surprise factor would be pretty priceless. Watch the video (below) from Chronicle Books to get a sense of things, and read the great backstory on Chronicle Books’ blog – the author originally thought up this idea at the ripe old age of 5! Sheesh, what an overachiever.

Love. Love. Love this book. I’m going to read it for library storytime this Sunday and I’m really looking to seeing the kids’ reactions. One of the best picture books I read so far this year!

OH MY GOODNESS! What music is playing in the background of this video??? It is hilariously delightful. Can you give me the name? Thank you. Less is more. Ingenious little book!

I don’t know, you’d have to ask chroniclebooks.com, they made the video.
