My Favorite Top Apps for Busy Creative Moms

Usually my app recommendations are all about games for the little whipper-snappers nipping at your heels (check the library above for my favorite apps for kids). But today, I thought I’d share a couple of my recent iPhone/iPad app obsessions – beyond Instagram and Pinterest, of course.

Dots (image via iDownloadBlog)
Dots may seem like a deceptively simply games. But it is the kind that proves to be extremely addictive. It’s your basic connect-the-dots concept, similar to Bejeweled and all of the other classics that are out there. But Dots super simple graphics, the minimalist sound effects, and the 60 second timer make it perfect for on the go playing. When you’re waiting at preschool pick-up, or stuck at dance rehearsal, etc. etc., this app is perfect no matter how little time you have. I like to think it hones my mental accuity too. It does, right?

Limetree
I found Limetree thanks to Donuts, Dress, and Dirt, and I can’t thank Sherri enough for the introduction. It’s the easiest way to gather up all those quick little child-related diary entries you never have time to enter. Choose to add a photo, “letter”, video, or sound clip to an ever-expanding timeline within the app. It’s great for quick quotes, memorable moments, and of course all of your iPhone and Instagram pics. Set up separate accounts for each child – and add a due date when all of your pithy observations will be delivered to your beautiful offspring. I’d actually like to have a separate version of this app just for my own journaling.

Poems by Heart
This is one of those little moments just for you. Penguin has created a beautiful app to help you memorize quote-worthy, classic poems. It walks you through multiple steps of memorization that work really well – I’ve already memorized my first 4-line bit of wit. For those days when you feel like all you’ve done is argue nonsensically with your precious progeny using only the smallest of words, this app lets you take a moment to remember that you DO have a brain. I wish the collections went deeper – after 2 free poems, you’ll pay $.99 for collections of 4, but the result is still worth it (feeling smarter is worth a lot, in my “book”. ha).

That’s enough for now, but there are more to share, of course! Would you like to see some of my other favorites?
