housekeeping: blog readers or newsletters?

Turned upside down - preschool Birdie

If you’re an avid blog reader, you may be feeling a little turned upside down by Google’s impending shutdown of it’s popular RSS Reader – it’s execution is scheduled for July 1st. I thought this might be a good time to remind people of some other reader options. And my favorite option – why don’t you subscribe to Small for Big via email?

For the uninitiated (hi Mom!), an RSS Reader allows you to take the “feeds” (new content) from your favorite blogs and news sources and read them all in one place. Depending on the kind of content you like, different readers may be the best fit for you. I’m sharing my two favorites.

Feedly
Feedly has worked hard to duplicate the backend processes of Google Reader, but I like it because it’s much more visual if you want it to be. You can choose how to view your feeds (lists, images, etc.), organize and reorganize them easily, and save your favorites to read later too. As a bloger, I go to Feedly frequently because it’s robust, and suits my visual preferences. You can follow Small for Big on Feedly. And Transfer your Google Reader feed right on Feedly’s homepage.

Bloglovin
Super clean and uncluttered, Bloglovin is probably the Pinterest of readers. That’s partly because of it’s visual simplicity, but it’s also because it feels more social. It includes a tab of popular posts and top blogs by category. Your individual likes contribute to those tallies, and your blog has it’s own landing page – you can follow Small for Big on Bloglovin here. It also has a much clearer focus on design and lifestyle. No tech, no finance, no sports. It has it’s niche down pat. Transfer your Google Reader feed here.

But I still say, just to be on the safe side, it’s time to subscribe to Small for Big. It’s one email a day, direct to you. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezey! Which method will you be choosing?
