Goldieblox Engineering Building Construction Set Toy for Girls

Are you a girl? Did you play with Legos as a kid? Is that about as far as your engineering skills progressed? Me too. I’ve always enjoyed understanding how or why something does what it does. In hindsight I wonder where I’d be now if I’d had the means to explore how things work in a more concrete way. Goldieblox is working hard to help our daughters have that question answered early on.

After a crazy successful Kickstarter campaign, Goldieblox is gaining tons of buzz in a very short amount of time. I’ve even had a couple non-parent female friends forwarding me the info in to make sure I knew about it! Now that’s good press! Started by a female engineer, Debbie Sterling explained the importance of Goldieblox best on her Kickstarter page:

“The scary truth is that only 11% of engineers are women and girls start losing interest in science as young as age 8!  This is our chance to change that statistic.”

Yessirreebob and hallelujah! Goldieblox uses story to engage girls (who prefer to know the “why” behind what they’re doing). Each set includes a storybook, and in the first one, Goldie builds a belt drive to help spin all of her friends. It’s a pretty brilliant concept, and a totally unique toy out there in the market. I sort of wish the colors were a tad more sophisticated, but, in this female-toys-must-be-pink marketplace, I think Goldieblox has done a great job at pulling lots of colors into the mix.

You can order Goldieblox and the Spinning Machine on their site right now, for only $29.99. There are already 2 more sets planned for Goldieblox, with a hopeful release date of August 2013! Yippy Skippy!

I really wish I had this when I was a kid! I loved playing with legos and playmobil and train tracks and stuff. I mean I liked doing the more building to make it look “pretty” and I played with more female versions. But I agree so much with what Debbie is saying, and I really want to play with it tbh. I’m sure she’s going to make this go far!

I agree, I think she’s set to go big – and so many moms want this kind of opportunity for their girls!
