Whales have a very calming presence: their immense size and slow movements can’t help but lull you like the waves of the water that they’re floating in. Plus, the amazing conversations they have can seem incredibly soothing after hours of kiddie cartoons! It’s kind of like the idea of fairies moving as fast as hummingbirds, and humans seeming impossibly slow, as described in that animated movie Epic. I guess in this case we’re the fairies, and clearly we’re all moving too fast!
Anyway, whatever the reason behind it. When I think of whales, I think of calm, soothing sounds and colors. Which is why I’m not surprised that I’m suddenly craving a whale in my life. I know, I can’t just add one to my backyard (wouldn’t that be ah-mazing?!) but I could have a gentle giant lounging across the pillows at the head of my bed, right? There’s nothing strange about that, is there? I definitely need the calming influence. Heck, who doesn’t?
So I thought I’d share these three gems, One is small enough to take with you to encourage less stressful journeys too. And then of course, there’s the giant felt creation below. Whoa, I wanna hug her. I think this is where I say “Thar she blows!”.

Very cool! I wish we could sell some of those whales in our shop…but most Etsy finds aren’t CPSIA certified :(. It would make such a cute and unique new baby gift!
Isn’t it possible to sell them as toys for 3+, or as soft sculptures? I wish there was a way around that!
These remind me of my friend’s shop, Lily & Gus. She makes the most amazing handmade stuffies – whales included!

Yes yes yes!!! Those are so lovely!
Anything for children 12 and under has to be third party tested…so even though there are so many wonderful toys available on Etsy, technically if they haven’t been CPSIA-certified, then they are illegal to sell. I really wish the CPSC would change this!
That is so frustrating!!!
