splurging for the musical toys

Naef Gloggomobil Wooden Organ Musical Instrument

Sometimes we dream impossible dreams. And sometimes I just have to share them with you, even though they’re not particularly realistic. You know, like when you get a hankering for a $1400 Naef Gloggomobil Wooden Organ Musical Instrument.

If it helps my argument any, it’s entirely handmade in Switzerland. They say it takes Swiss craftsmen several days to make one of these Gloggomobiles. I believe it. The results are an oversized barrel-instrument that lets you and the kids create your own music by placing the little pins wherever you’d like on the barrel. Much like a super-deluxe music box mechanism. You can also play the xylophone directly without using the barrel. See, it’s so worth it, right? Right?

Ok. Maybe not. What about the more affordable Naef Rainbow Toy, though it’s  still top dollar at just over $200. But this one features lots of play value: start with basic stacking and sorting, graduate to balancing and puzzle-making, creating sculptures, and of course playing the wooden arches like a xylophone. So you know, when we win the lottery, we know where to spend our extra dough.
