Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphs Golden Birthday Cake and Egyptian Party Theme for kids

My little early birdie has suddenly turned into a six year old. As we all say, how did that happen?! One of my favorite parts of watching her grow over the past months is seeing her ongoing passion for all things Ancient Egypt. This year’s birthday theme was a no-brainer!

We held the party at Kidcreate Studio, a local kids art studio. They have the best art projects, a bright and cheerful space, great people helping with the party, and just enough time for some cake and present opening too.  They even had an Ancient Egyptian themed art project for the kids to do!

With that end covered, all I needed to obsess about were the birthday cake and the party favors.  Here’s what we came up with:

Cake:

Luckily Birdie received a book on Hieroglyphs for Christmas, so researching how to spell her name was extra easy – you can do a quick search online too and come up with tons of resources. I created the ‘glyphs I needed in Adobe Illustrator, then used my Cricut Explore™ and these amazing Wilton Shimmer Sugar Sheets in Gold to cut out each shape. Then, with frosting, yellow glitter, gold sugar, and fondant in hand (and Birdie’s demanding help!) we created a golden Egyptian birthday cake. I love how it turned out. (even though my amateur fondant skills made for thick fondant. Ah well, next year I’ll be better!)

The favors were just a matter of searching for the right bits and bobs online. I wanted a natural bag, so we used Muslin Bags. With an Egyptian Isis Rubber Stamp and some Gold Metallic Ink, the bags were ready in no time. Inside we included Papyrus Bookmarks, Egyptian Tattoos, Ancient Egypt TOOB Figurine, and several glistening Jewels. I think the kids were floored. I kind of wanted to keep it all for myself.

Birdie was determined to look the part – so I decided to get creative and create our own Egyptian inspired ensemble, instead of a stock Cleopatra costume. I found the perfect Egyptian Collar necklace from an Egyptian Etsy shop – you can’t get better than made in Egypt, and at a really affordable price. We added a golden sateen dress (which she can wear again!) from Tea Collection, and Egyptian leggings from Zulily. Add a ribbon sash and we were all set! Oh, and of course, we had to do some Cleopatra hair.

I’m so happy with how everything turned out – and of course the best part is Birdie and her friends had a wonderful time. In the end, that’s the only thing that matters – and I am one happy momma.

It wouldn’t have been a party without all of you, thanks Sam!
