one thousand things to learn in a book

One Thousand Things - Childrens Book - Helping Kids Read | Small for Big

Did you have Richard Scarry books when you were a kid? The mysteries, the word books, the Best Story Book Ever (no really, that was the actual title of one of them!) I’ve brought some of them back out to share with Birdie, and they fascinate her as much as they did me. Of course, you can still find them at the bookstore too.

It’s the word books I’m thinking of today.  Isn’t it amazing how much interest a kid can have when looking at a page of illustrations and simply naming them all with the words beside each drawing? It’s powerful stuff. Well, now we have another book full of gorgeous illustrations to add to that genre: One Thousand Things. The illustrations are retro in an entirely different way, but they’re still fascinating to look at. I’m particularly in love with the overall color palette, and for me, to heck with the words, I just want to look at each picture for awhile!
