Uncle Sam really knows how to make a patriotic fashion statement. Join in the fun with this sweet mini top hat – it even includes the mini bunting to be extra festive! It’s ready for a party – make several to share with all the kids and fashionable friends in your life. Or, get all the pieces ready, and assemble them with friends at a crafty 4th of July party!

This top hat includes paper loops on the bottom to attach to a standard headband, but it would also attach to a ribbon, bobby pins, or barrettes too.

This project was designed for the Cricut Explore. But you can make it without the machine too – scroll to the bottom of the post to see how to make this printable without a Cricut machine (and with access to your handy dandy scissors!).

Prep and Cut:

  • Using the Print Then Cut option in your Cricut Design Space™ software, print the designs onto 8.5” x 11” cardstock.
  • Follow the steps in Cricut Design Space™ software to cut each piece of the hat.

Assemble:

  • Take the top piece of your hat (the blue and red bullseye with tabs around the edge), and fold all the tabs down.

  • Grab 1 of the 2 hat sides (stars on blue) and line them up with the tabs, this piece will curve around ½ of the hat, gluing or taping the tabs to the edge of the side piece as you go.

  • Then take the second hat side, glue or tape it to the edge of the first piece, and wrap around the rest of the hat, continuing to glue or tape the tabs to the top edge. Then overlap the edges of the sides and glue or tape together. Now you have a cylinder with the bulls eye on one end.

  • Take the brim of the hat (blue and red bulls eye with a hole and tabs in the center), fold 4 of the tabs up, but leave 2 opposite tabs flat (these will attach to your headband at the end). Glue or tape the 4 folded tabs to the inside of the cylinder.

  • Grab the 2 short red rectangles, and wrap them around the 2 flat tabs on the base/brim of the hat. These create the loops you need to wrap around the headband.

Make this Printable without a Cricut machine:

If you don’t have a Cricut Explore, you can still create this project as a printable – you’ll cut them out with your scissors instead. Follow the steps below. This will let you purchase the file, and Print Then Cut by hand. There are some interior cuts you may want to ignore, but otherwise you’ll be just fine.

  • Click the “Customize” button for the project you want to make from Smallful’s Cricut Shop.
  • Cricut Print Then Cut projects can only print within a 5.5” x 8” area. You’ll notice the images are laid out and grouped to be printed that way – over multiple pages.
  • Select each image and click the “flatten” button in the pop-up menu on the right so you have a total of 12 Flattened Sets.
  • Hit “Go” and then Sign In or create a Cricut ID and enter your payment info.
  • If you aren’t using the Cricut to cut, you will want to remove the bleed by clicking the ‘Bleed (for print then cut)’ box (find this by clicking the blue “more mat options”) under the print copies in the upper LH corner). This will give you a cleaner print.
  • From there, click the “Print and Go” button. At this point, your printer menu will pop up and you can print the image. After you hit print, it will ask you to make sure you have connected your Cricut Explore, but you can just ignore this because you’re all finished! Now you have your own printable to cut out and use!
