gotta get apps for the holidays

by mari

The holidays are drawing nigh, and with them comes the dreaded holiday road trips. We have a couple trips coming up between now and the 25th, and the DVD player will definitely be in rotation. Plus, there is always the what-to-do-with-the-kids at a different toy-free home. That (and ok, at restaurants throughout the year) is when iDevices make life bearable. Here are a couple of our favorite apps for the iPad and iPhone:

Santa’s Big Helper (above), $0.99 – this app brings several Christmas-friendly treats all at once: a naughty/nice list (that you customize and update at will), elf updates, Christmas countdown, letters to santa, and more. It’s one of the less offensive Santa apps I’ve found.

Toca Boca Christmas Gift, Free – I highly recommend each and every Toca Boca app (I think there are 11 or 12?!) but the chance to give Santa a Christmas haircut in any color of the rainbow is definitely worth a download.

Little Fox Music Box, $2.99 – We’ve had this app for some time, but it’s got depth and breadth for different ages. Play your own music with a hilarious cast of characters and objects, or sing along to some beautiful songs you already know with some incredibly immersive environments. It’s gorgeous.

Puzzld!, $0.99 – These puzzles are beautiful to look at, and include varying levels of difficulty too (the pieces can rotate freely based on the position of the device to make it harder!). My girl will do these puzzles over and over again. Make sure to download the separate iPhone and iPad apps – they’re played differently!

Here’s hoping all of your holiday travels will be safe and relatively calm!
