DIY: printable mother’s day box of chocolates

by mari

Mother’s Day is coming up fast! As a mom, my favorite gifts are always the handmade wonders my little Birdie presents to me. I’m always grateful that her school helps the kids make something for moms. This year I wanted to help her create something special. I think I’ve found just the thing.

This printable mother’s day box is perfect for holding any small gift for your favorite moms. Though the folding is more appropriate for older kids, any kid can color it exactly the way they want to. Plus, you can help them fill out the “I love you because:” messages on the box as well. The printable includes the box, as well as 4 mini “boxes” to hold Dove Chocolates – 2 chocolates per box. (use a dab of double stick tape to keep the chocolates stacked) The box looks great without the mini boxes too – so whether you use the mini boxes inside or not is entirely up to you and your gift-giving whims!

What you’ll need:

  • Box Printable (4 pages)
  • Coloring supplies: markers, colored pencils, etc.
  • Glue stick or double-stick tape
  • Scissors
  • Dove chocolates, or other small giftable trinkets

What you’ll do:

  • Download and print the 4 page pdf.
  • Cut out the pieces.
  • Color each piece – some parts of the box won’t be seen once it’s folded, check the pictures!
  • Fold the box top and bottom, following the images. The folds are all to create a grid.
  • Begin by folding it in half in both directions, to create a 4 section folded grid.
  • Then turn it over so the colored side faces out.
  • Use the folds as a guide when folding the 4 corners into the center.
  • Then bring the folded edges into the center again – on all four sides.
  • Now open up the paper, keeping 2 corners folded into the center.
  • Use the folds you’ve created to form the sides of the box, tucking the extra paper inside as shown in the pics. You can also check out these origami box instructions too.
  • Repeat for the bottom of the box.
  • Now use your glue stick to add the bow and gift tag.
  • Assemble the mini boxes.
  • Give to your favorite mom!

The rounded sides fold in first, then the top flaps with triangles slide together – each flap has a slit in its side. Hope that helps!
