Under $25
Eco Wooden Rattles, Soopsori, set of 4, $18 Age: 0 +
A set of four gentle rattles with soothing soft sounds, and sweet faces to keep your baby company. A great gift set, and sure to be unique.
Feel & Roll Bumpy Balls, $9.99, Age: 3 mos +
These soft rubber balls are super lush in color and softly flocked texture. Plus, four of them for $9.99 is a steal (and only vaild until Dec. 21st, 2010!)
Zebu Ze Zebra, Ze Super Zeros, on sale for $22 Age: 0 +
I love the Super Zeros for their charming expressions, but the message that everyone is a little super is a super bonus. Babes will love to hold on to their capes, and as they get older, you can buy the kid-sized cape, book and CD set to go with them.
Handle Car, $10, Recommended Age: 1+ (free shipping at Land of Nod!)
Like the teethers, simplicity in cars is an a-ok thing at this age. The handle makes them easy to grasp, and the wheels are all your 6 month old needs to get curious.
Green Toys My First Blocks, $18.98, Age: 6 mos +
Recycled plastic milk jugs make great toys, at least when Green Toys gets ahold of them. These sweet first blocks may be a bit ambitious for a 6 month old, but they will grow into them very quickly. Stack them high and watch them fall – when you push them of course.
Zady Ball, $15, Age: 0 +
Just look at those eyes, how can you refuse them? This is a perfect first ball for little ones because lots of legs to grasp, fiddle with, gnaw on, and explore. The high contrast graphic eyes don’t hurt either.
Under $50
Crazy Cuddly Wolf, T’es Fou Louloup, $37 Age: 0 +
This pal comes jam-packed with 5 activity toys, crinkle, chimes, and bell. The belly zips up for additional play value as your babe gets older (and to help parents store the pieces!). If you love his look like I do, but not the price tag you can get the simple Plush Crazy Cuddly Wolf instead for around $19.
Pixie Turquoise Booties, La La Shoes, $40 Age: 0 – 9 mos
Made in Croatia, these beautiful pure wool booties will charm even the surliest baby. Make sure to click through and see all the styles available – from velcro straps to precious lace-ups and adorable mary janes. The color combos are stunning!
Water Friends Car Seat Toy, Lilliputiens, $32 Age: 3 mos +
Lilliputiens does it again, the French know their stuff. This travel toy has probably triple the characters and features of your average toy from your local big box store. All the colors, textures, and silly faces are sure to keep babies entranced.
2 in 1 Tesselation Rocking Horse + Playmat, $28, Age: 0 -36
The only potential downfall to this toy is figuring out how to put the puzzle together on a harried Christmas eve with wrapping paper in your way. But besides that, you can’t beat the price, the colors, and the functionality. This is sure to impress.
Splurge – worthy Ideas:
Grow With Me Convertible Push Cart, $120 Age: 9 mos +
Babies grow so fast, and this toy is determined to prove it can keep up with the Joneses. What better value than a wooden toy that converts from a first walker, to a scooter, to a grocery cart. This is hardly a splurge when you consider how many options are included in one great toy.
Many Hands Blankets, $78
Baby blankets and quilts are the best first Christmas gift – you can never have enough of them. These beautiful quilts come in many different embroidery options – monkeys, elephants, dolphins, etc. The color palettes are so refressing too. Or, if you’re willing to spend a little more money, you should also check out this post on Haptic Labs’ Map Quilts.
