a little birthday party and a big cake

5 year old girl's art and flowers birthday party

Since our house is a re-modeling shambles, it seemed the best idea in the world to host Birdie’s 5th birthday party somewhere other than home sweet home. But I couldn’t let go of a couple personal touches – like a birthday cake and favors! Luckily Birdie was very excited by a flower-themed decoration scheme, which dovetailed perfectly with my new box of icing tips and an itching to make some sugary frosting roses! That and some store-bought fondant allowed Birdie to cut out tons of flowers and decorate too.

The party itself was held at a local kid-friendly art studio, Kid Create Studio. This place is the best. They offer a huge variety of crafty projects for the kids to choose from, easy set-up and clean-up, and a party schedule that keeps everyone moving. I also love the little extra touches: a huge birthday banner (butcher paper) that all the kids can decorate, and a crown made out of 2 layers of clear packing tape, glitter, and feathers as designed by the kiddo in charge. Plus, the space itself is light and airy, with a much better vibe than your average party room!

So yeah, we had a blast – I KNOW Birdie did, you can tell by her sweet expressions in these photos. What a wonderful day!

I love this! Layer cakes really do make a statement unlike anything else. Now I’m dreaming up what I’d like my birthday cake to be- and I still have 3+ months!
