Cate and Levi and their eco toys

by mari

Today’s post is the last in our top ten toy trends for 2010 posts. It’s such a tongue-twister it’s a good thing we’re wrapping things up! (Because I know we’re all talking about my posts from morning til night, right?) I thought I’d sum things up with a trend I know many of us are really excited about: Eco-friendly Toys. Though I’ve featured everything from Sprig’s eco-plastics made of sawdust to Ecotronics‘ faux electronic toys sans batteries, today I’m keeping it simple. There’s an explosion of smaller companies finding ways to turn eco-conscious practices into amazing toys. I think it’s this groundswell that helps convince the bigger companies to make inroads into the world of eco-friendly.

Cate and Levi were started by a dad frustrated with the toys he could find. The company is dedicated to a low carbon footprint and reusing materials. The resulting stuffed animals, pillows, zoo cubes, puppets, and even wall art (!) are all made from recycled wool. Like thismonkey, I love the great selection of characters and patterns! Honestly, anyone who creates both a platypus and a walrus is on my cool list.
