knitty gritty girly

Wren Wearing a handknit sweater from a free pattern

What’s the best thing to do on a six hour road trip? Well, since I can’t find time to do it anywhere else, it’s knitting. I used to knit a bunch – I was addicted to it. By the time Birdie was born I think she had 3 sweaters, mittens, 2 hats, 2 pairs of booties, a blanket (oh my, where did that thing go?!), and a bunny lovey toy. Of course I was also stuck in bed for several months. After Birdie was born? I’m guessing you can guess. Not so much knitting. So I decided to use my time wisely and knit the same sweater she wore when she was one month old. Thanks to the flexibility of cardigans – and the popularity of 3/4 sleeves – the Debbie Bliss Ribbed Baby Sweater you see above still fits her at 18 months. The pattern is free and it’s a breeze to make. But by fall I think it will be time for a bigger size. Here’s hoping I can find some more time to get it done – we have another roadtrip in September? Maybe that will do.

She’s growing so fast – that picture was taken when she was 10 months old. That’s back when discovering your tongue was the height of cool. To see how big she is now at 18 months, take a peek at this gorgeous shot that Lori, from Paisley Wallpaper, caught over the weekend. Lori’s photo skills are mad crazy amazing.

Thanks Cassie – she gets so many kisses and hugs that she ends up pushing me away!
