play legos the new way

Lego Board Games MInotaurus

I usually spend part of each journey through Target browsing the toy aisles to keep up with the latest and greatest – it’s an old habit that has helped me many times with future toy designs. But I swear, this time I was simply wandering past the toy section, on a mission for bug spray, minding my own business. And then I saw these unusual Lego boxes that were, well, different, taking up prime end cap space. Guess what? Lego has made a potentially brilliant move: they are combining Lego’s building abilities with some very classic board game ideas. Call me gobsmacked. These Lego Board Games look so cool! (though I have to say, their packaging solutions always leave me a bit cold) There are ten – count’em, ten – different games ranging in size and price from $9.99 – $34.99. With names like Creationary, Magikus, Minotaurus, Pirate’s Cove, and (my personal favorite) Shear the Sheep, I think I may have to start collecting them all now for our future game nights with Birdie. Lego’s website, as always, is full of great information for each game, as well as lots of interactive webby stuff to get you and your kids extra excited (as if you weren’t already?)

What do you think, would you play these with your kids? Do you have a game night or is that just too impossible in our busy lives? Let us know in the comments below!

We saw these at Legoland in Chicago and were also very intrigued. They should also consider travel versions.

Travel versions are a great idea – especially if they came with lots of extra pieces for the inevitably lost ones!

That’s great to know – sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. (plus, less instructions to decipher)

Hey, adults like board games too – I definitely think he needs it!
Especially if he’s anything like my husband: notoriously hard to shop for.
