There’s something afoot over at West Elm. I can’t quite describe it to you, but their aesthetic has subtly shifted for the better. A little more refined, a little more organic and earthy but still well-set in a modernist vibe. It’s like it’s less “contemporary” and more classic mod. But maybe that’s just the trend right now. Ok, who am I kidding of course that’s the trend right now – and I’m loving every minute of it. We stopped in their store last weekend while searching desperately for a better “media storage” solution(the hub’s super-sized flatscreen is looking a little bereft and confused by what’s beneath it). We didn’t find the right piece of furniture, but there were lots of other goodies I caught a brief glimpse of while keeping Birdie occupied. Is it just me, or do other moms spend their entire time out with their toddler asking “Can you find me a star? Can you find me a flower? Where are the ceiling fans?”.
So I nabbed their catalog on the way out the door (also gorgeous, except for the part where they do lifestyle shots including pieces of vintage furniture which they Do. Not. Sell. Whah?) Which helped me find the mod ceramic gnomes ($19 each). They would be outstanding in your nursery, I’m positive of it. If you’d like an extra dose of refinement, add the hanging 3-tier mobile or modern mobile below, thanks to a collab with John-Paul Philippe. (as always, keep them out of reach of your kiddo, but the shapes and movements would be fascinating).

Good finds Mari! We have to drive 2 hours :-( to get to a WE, and I hate their new website, so thanks for finding the new good stuff!
Thanks! Yeah, we just got the store last year, and it’s really out of my way. I must be old-fashioned: the catalog is still my preferred way to shop with them!
Hi,
Does anyone have or know where I can get the taller white modern gnome from West Elm? I can’t find any on ebay. I had both but the teller one broke.
thanks,
Gretta
I wish I had a better idea but eBay is where I would look too. Argh, so frustrating!
